Silicon Genesis

Stanford University

http://silicongenesis.stanford.edu/stanford_video/chang.htm

Barron's Names Dr. Rick Tsai to its Most Respected CEO List

Barron's Names Dr. Rick Tsai to its Most Respected CEO List

Dr. Rick Tsai, President and CEO of TSMC, joined an elite group of global business leaders when he was named Monday by Barron's to the magazine's annual list of the "30 most respected CEOs".

Dr. Tsai received his recognition along side more high profile CEO's such as Apple's Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet of Berkshire Hathaway, John Chambers of Cisco, and Mark Hurd of Hewlett-Packard. The list included 12 CEOs from outside the United States.

Barron's had no statistical formula for its ranking, but as a business publication, it claims to have paid close attention to how a company's stock performed throughout a CEO's tenure. To make the grade, the CEOs had to be on the job for at least three years.

In making their citation, the magazine noted Dr. Tsai's vision, citing the fact that despite the global downturn he has made the strategic commitment to continue R&D investment. The editors also mentioned Intel's recent decision to port it's popular Atom processor to TSMC as another reason for Dr. Tsai’s selection.
